Local Rail Groups

Trans Wilts CIC

Our organisation takes a Wiltshire-wide view as well as developing and supporting the TransWilts Rail Line. The north-south TransWilts line is the coordinating link joining Wiltshire’s train routes and communities. Expansion of the through service from Swindon beyond Westbury to Salisbury and to Southampton Airport is a priority for us.

Operating since December 2013 as a three year trial, we became a Designated Community Rail Service in September 2016. The Service having been incorporated into the GWR Franchise from the December 2016 timetable. Our mission is to: “carry on activities which encourage and promote increasing usage of public transport for benefit of the communities living and working in Wiltshire and to represent the interests of local public transport users including rail and bus special interest groups in Swindon and Wiltshire, promoting improved connectivity between local services and the national network.

West Wiltshire Rail Users Group

The West Wiltshire Rail Users Group is an independent association which aims to maintain and enhance the rail services serving West Wiltshire. Meetings are held throughout the year in local towns, with prominent speakers from the rail industry, local government, and other relevant organisations giving informative talks on rail related issues. Members receive a regular newsletter in return for a very modest annual subscription.

Heart of Wessex Line

The Heart of Wessex Rail Partnership is a twenty year old joint venture between seven local authorities and the train operator, Great Western Railway.  The core objective of the partnership is to increase awareness and use of the Bristol to Weymouth services, in turn contributing to economic growth, carbon reduction and other key priorities for local authority partners.
